Romans 1:18-28. It’s Mother’s Day, why would you read a text like this one for a Mother’s Day message? Because the highest privilege and calling of the woman has been under attack in our society for some time. This attack against God’s created order has primarily emanated from ungodly women who despise their highest calling, being a mother. These are the same ungodly women who attack men for being men, who despise men who are morally strong and masculine, whom God has called to be husbands, fathers, and leaders of their families and our society! The moral insanity and wickedness of our society seems to be accelerating, the so-called experts are now teaching our young people that they may choose their own gender, and change, or EXCHANGE what God created them to be, into what THEY FEEL they should be. What’s worse is, THIS foolishness is being taught in our colleges and universities. This moral insanity is even now being taught in elementary schools, they are teaching young children that they may be gods, and that they may choose and decide whether they would like to change or exchange what God has created them to be! Parents, grandparents, you better be teaching your children and grandchildren the truth! If you send them to school, you better not be sitting on the sidelines, you better be asking them about what they are learning from their teachers and from their schools! They are YOUR children and YOUR responsibility! If there was ever a time to wake up parents and see the importance of your God-Given role and responsibility, it’s NOW! Sadly, MANY women have already rejected and cast aside their God given role of MOTHERHOOD to pursue other things. The foundation of any society is the family, children need their fathers and their mothers! To weaken the God created family unit is to weaken a society! What we read in our opening text is happening all around us: They have exchanged the truth of God for a lie, they dishonor their own bodies between themselves, women have exchanged their natural relationship with a man into that which is against nature! These attacks are from ungodly women against men, but it is also an attack from ungodly women against mothers, who are attacking and dismantling God’s created order, and their God given calling and privilege of motherhood! All this moral insanity is coming at us from every direction, worst of all, it is being promoted and celebrated by the leaders of our nation and teachers in our schools! Don’t be deceived by the experts or professionals! Just because someone has the word “EXPERT” or “PROFESSIONAL” as a title, that doesn’t mean they’re right! Don’t let the “EXPERTS” tell you how to think and how to raise your children, don’t let the “EXPERTS” teach your children against your wishes as their parents…. don’t let the experts teach your children to rebel against their Creator! Genesis 1:26-27, 2:18-25, 3:20 To adapt the world’s view of a man and a father, or a woman and a mother is the “exchange the truth of God for a lie”. It is rebellion against your Creator and to shake your fist at God! It is the pot fighting against the potter! It is the highest form of discontentment and rebellion against God…. I love “Mother’s Day”, and I love seeing women who love their children, and their God given calling of being mothers, who love and nurture and care for their children in such ways that only they can do! In such ways that men cannot! One cannot underscore or overstate the powerful influence of a godly wife and mother upon her children, her grandchildren, and even towards other children, who have perhaps lost their mothers! What is a mother? Not just a woman who gives birth to a child, but who loves, nurtures, and cares for that child! Not every woman who births a child becomes a mother. And there are many women who have never born children, who are wonderful mothers. Momma, it doesn’t matter whether your children are infants, toddlers, teenagers, or adults, you’re still momma. Your role may not be as it was when they were in your home, but you must never cease to be that powerful mothering influence in their lives! Oh, your children will push back against you, they are little sinners who will grow up into adult sinners, but you’re still their momma! You’ve got the God-Given high ground, don’t give it up, you teach them what is right and wrong in the sight of God! But back to the question, what is a mother? I bring you to Solomon’s court, 1 Kings 3, and the (2) harlots who came before the king. "1 Kings 3:16–28 recounts that two mothers living in the same house, each the mother of an infant son, came to Solomon. One of the babies had been smothered, and each claimed the remaining boy as her own. Calling for a sword, Solomon declared his judgment: the baby would be cut in two, each woman to receive half." 1 Kings 3:24-27). Solomon, in his wisdom, knew how to find out the real mother of the child. When he said cut it in (2) pieces, the child’s mother yearned with compassion for her son, she cried out, NO! Give my son to her, don’t slay him. Here you see the heart of this mother from her heart, and from her “God-Given Natural Affection” for her child. SHE was willing to give him to the other woman, rather than see him die! Sadly, the other woman showed how terribly her own sin and wickedness had affected her heart as a mother, to so easily cast off her own son who had died in the night and steal another woman’s child….to not even mourn for the loss of her own son! She was without natural affection! Isaiah 49:15: “Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb?” That is precisely what happened here. Romans 1:28, 31, 2 Timothy 3:1-3. I love this story of Solomon’s wisdom, even though these women were harlots, it reveals to us a picture of a “mother’s heart”. There is a God given “natural affection” that ought to be in the heart of every woman toward her children. The absence of this “natural affection” is one of the terrible effects of sin on women and mothers! Back to that powerful mothering influence that you should be for your children…and your grandchildren… Momma, you should be a powerful gospel influence on your children, and your grandchildren….and to your children’s friends! Acts 16:1, 2 Timothy 1:5 Mother-in-law: What a wonderful example of Naomi, who was mother-in-law to Ruth. Ruth, who was before a worshiper of false gods now had no mothering influence but Naomi! Because of Naomi’s godly influence in her life, she became a believer in the True God of Israel. Ruth 1:8-18. The powerful influence of a mother’s prayers for her children! Momma, pray for your children, and let them know that you are praying for them! 1 Samuel 1:11, 26-28 Charles Bridges wrote: “If there were more Hannah’s, would there not be more Samuels?” Momma may the LORD hear your cries and see your tears for the salvation of your children! Momma, correct and teach your children, teach them what is right and wrong in the sight of God! 1 Kings 1:6, Proverbs 22:6, 29:15, 31:1-3 Finally, I bring you to the heart of that most famous mother, who carried, birthed, and raised the Lord Jesus from a child! Luke 2:46-52 Finally: There was the terrible grief and wounds of the mother of our Lord, who beheld her Son and child in agony, suffering for the sins of the world, dying on a Roman cross as an innocent man, and all she could do was watch, weep, believe God. John 19:25-27 Never forget that mothers are a gift from God. It is so sad to see how terribly despised this “highest calling of the woman” has been so diminished and despised. Those children who were cared for and raised by loving and faithful mothers know the many blessings of having a good and godly momma! Proverb’s 31:25-28
