Nebuchadnezzar is an example of the kind of foolish people God sometimes places over us. He acted on the dream God had given him in chapter two about his being the head of gold (Daniel 2:37-38), and made an entire obelisk of gold (Daniel 3:1).
In his arrogance, he demanded that everyone bow down and worship it or face being burned alive in a fiery furnace (Daniel 3:6, 11, 15).
Jealousy is innate in human nature, and so the three Jewish men whom Nebuchadnezzar had appointed over Babylon were reported by others for their failure to do what the king had commanded (Daniel 3:8-12).
When confronted, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, refused to obey the king (Daniel 3:16-18).
But they did not do this in an arrogant or rebellious way. That is because God demands that we always respect and obey the authorities whom he has placed over us. Not even the Archangel Michael was willing to insult the devil, but called on the LORD himself to do it (Jude 8-10).
The only exceptions to obedience are when we are commanded to sin or to deny the LORD (Daniel 3:18; Acts 5:29).
Faith must be absolute when it comes to affirming God's ability to do anything, but it cannot be so absolute regarding what He chooses to do (Daniel 3:17-18).
