God's purpose is to take people who hate each other and combine them as one in the Body of Christ.
Think about why the Greeks and Jews hated each other. Go back to the events surrounding Hanukkah, when the Greeks offered a pig to Zeus inside God's holy Temple.
God is building both the Temple of the New Covenant and the Body of Christ. Ephesians 4:1-16 speaks about that maturity and informs us that the role of the pastor-teacher is to equip "ordinary believers" to do the work of the ministry.
1 Corinthians 12:12-14 speaks of the unity of all believers in the one Body of Christ.
1 Corinthians 12:15-18 warns us against feeling we are useless and inferior because we think our gifts are unimportant.
1 Corinthians 12:19-24 warns us against looking down on other believers because we think their gifts are inferior to ours.
1 Corinthians 12:25-27 affirms our unity and need for entering into the joys and sorrows of others.
1 Corinthians 12:28-31 lays out the gifts of the Holy Spirit and how they are to be used to serve one another.
