The Apostle Peter informs us that civil government exists to restrain evil as well as to see to it that citizens enjoy the fruit of their lawful labors.
We must obey whatever government we find ourselves under, unless that obedience would force us to sin against God. However, when we must disobey authority, we must always do so respectfully, and we must continue to obey that authority in other matters.
Obedience to government is an important aspect of our Christian testimony, and we must pray for those whom God has placed over us to know the Lord themselves and be saved.
While we must respect those whom God has placed over us and obey their lawful commands, nowhere does Scripture ever encourage Christians to trust government. Our trust is in the Lord alone.
