1. The true gospel grounds all of salvation in what Christ alone did... 2. What God did in Christ is what constitutes the INDICATIVES of salvation (speaks of one's cause of standing in Christ as already established). IT speaks to what is true about the redeemed, they are children, redeemed, holy , justified, have an inheritance. 3. But there is a therefore that follows (imperatives). Imperatives are commands/exhortations given to those who are the redeemed. Doing them does not commend or recommend one to God. But all believers are exhorted to obey them. 4. However, working imperatives to establish indicatives is false teaching. Indicatives are what establishes all matters of life and righteousness. 5. Ephesians 4:1-3 (NKJV) 1 I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, 2 with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, 3 endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. |
