As long as I deny that I am a sinner or as long as I minimize the seriousness of my sins, I cannot be forgiven because I have not really confessed my need of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Human beings tend toward this kind of minimizing and self justification. However, deep down inside we know better, no matter how effectively we justify things to ourselves and others. And this guilt will eat us up and destroy the health of our soul.
When I own up to the seriousness of my sins and take full responsibility for them, then I can truly give the guilt of those sins to the Lord Jesus. Then I can truly know forgiveness and cleansing from my sin. Then I possess another spiritual key to unlock mental health.
