This Sunday we begin a new preaching series through the book of Isaiah. It is a large book, rich with promises of hope and deliverance amidst many warnings of impending judgment. In the early church it was regarded by some as 'a fifth gospel' and it is not difficult to see why. Isaiah announces a wonderful message of redemption for all who would 'hear the word of the Lord' contained within. This week, we will hear how the gospel message of salvation contained and declared in the prophet's own name – Isaiah means 'the Lord saves,' or better still, 'the Lord IS salvation.' The church today, as well as the nations, need to hear this message afresh. Salvation belongs to our God, and is found in him alone.
