This ninety minute lecture was given to the teachers at Grace Christian School at the beginning of the 2005-2006 year. The first thirty minutes survey historical documents to demonstrate that the fear of God is foundational to the American system of law and government. The next section focuses on Scripture and the times in which we find ourselves, with the last thirty minutes dealing with Jesus' warnings about hell.
The loss of the fear of God is the fundamental reason for the collapse of Western Civilization before the forces of Islamicism. As the founders of the United States understood, we cannot maintain a free society without the fear of God. In 2005 many things are embraced that could not have been imagined generations ago: among which is the sexual revolution with its devastating impact on the lives of little children, including some whom we will teach this year. Bound up in the concept of the fear of God is the realization that all human beings will spend eternity in one place or another: either in heaven or in a dreadful place called hell, 'where their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched.'
