In our study of the Olivet Discourse, we took a "rabbit trail" this morning, focusing on the Lord Jesus Christ's being a true human being according to the Definition of the Council of Chalcedon in AD 451.
God is one being, eternally existing in three distinct Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
The eternal Son of God is one Person with two natures, one fully divine, the other fully human.
As a human being he experienced weakness, temptation, ignorance, and growth. Luke 2:52 states: "And Jesus was advancing in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men."
Though morally perfect, he grew in physical, mental, and spiritual perfection. "Although He was a Son, He learned obedience from the things which He suffered. And having been made perfect, He became to all those who obey Him the source of eternal salvation." (Hebrews 5:8-9)
Jesus' reference to the "Days of Noah" was not given as a sign of the types of things happening just before his return (Matthew 24:37-39), but focuses on the utterly unexpected nature of his return to the world, as over against the signs for the destruction of Jerusalem that people could take action in response to (Matthew 24:15-22).
As a true human being, the Lord Jesus did not know the time of his return (Matthew 24:36; Mark 13:32).
