In Matthew 24 Jesus spoke about the abomination of desolation which Daniel 9:27 spoke about. When Matthew wrote Jesus prophecies in that chapter, he inserted this when Jesus mentioned Daniel 9:27, "Whoever reads let him understand." The abomination of desolation takes place in Israel in the Jewish temple. This means that before the tribulation begins or very early in the tribulation the Jewish temple must be in place once more. To this 2 Thessalonians 2 agrees when it speaks of the antichrist setting himself up in the Jewish temple as God which happens in the middle of the tribulation. Some fifty years before Israel became a nation again in 1948 Theodore Herzl prophesied this would happen, as it did. The OT prophesied again and again that Israel would be restored. For some 2,000 years Israel lay dormant, and then in 1948 it once more became a nation as it is to this very day. Everything is in place for Daniel's 70th week, the tribulation, to begin. I am fully persuaded that before that happens, Jesus Christ will take the Church to heaven and in the next session we will look at that event.
