There's much to learn from her and one of those lessons is the beautiful balance of her honoring her husband, who was in no place of leading their home in matters of faith, and honoring the work of God through His prophet.
And God richly rewarded her kindness... How? He gave THEM a son, then raised him from the dead when he took sick and died. In spite of the good or bad... her heart declared in faith, "It is well." Then we see God warning THEM of a famine (2 Kings 8), that would come upon the land for seven years, and giving her instructions for THEM to leave the area during that time. So THEY are cared for in a foreign land... and when THEY return, after the seven years of famine, God stirs the heart of the king to ask a past servant of Elisha's to share some of the things that the prophet had done in Israel. And, as he's bearing witness to the king, the woman of Shunem walks in to talk about THEIR land and God laid it on his heart to restore THEIR land and all the proceeds it made while THEY were gone. Wow!!! Favor for her faith and blessings for her kindness to the prophet of God. HER faith, in a faithful Creator, moved the heart of her CREATOR to protect her and all that is hers. But the neat thing about it—she never did it for the rich rewards that came her way.
