SERMON INFO
How many times have you looked at the news headlines and said, "Oh no! Not again!" Maybe it was a car jacking, an attempted stabbing on a flight or an uprising at a store or mall. Perhaps it was a campus shooting, a burglar that entered someone's home or maybe someone was robbed while walking or on a bus or train. The list of such situations is seemingly endless.

Sadly, America is not getting any safer. Scripture teaches that while we don't know what a day may bring forth, we are to maintain vigilance concerning our surroundings. In fact, you have a built-in awareness as you go about the routine of your day. Do you use that awareness? While our hope and trust is in God, is there anything a person can do to prevent tragic things from happening?

In order to help listeners understand this issue, Crosstalk welcomed Brian Searcy. Brian is a retired U.S. Air Force Colonel. He is founder and CEO of The Paratus Group. He's a Situational and Awareness Expert and Safety and Leadership Consultant. He is author of Prepare for the Real World-The World is Not a Safe Place.

According to Brian, situational awareness is a God-given gift to all of us. It's that "hair on the back of the neck" or "gut feeling" we all get when something just doesn't seem right in the present environment. It's not just recognizing this "back of neck" or "gut feeling." It's about developing and empowering your habits, behaviors and mindset through the practicing of a process that allows you to prevent bad things from happening. That way you, your loved ones and others don't become victims. This is what Brian helps people to do.
