Reading from Psalm 22, Pastor Keen focused on the events leading up to and occurring at the crucifixion of Christ, especially remembering the prayers of Christ from the garden and from the cross. Christ was in agony as He prayed in the garden and His request to His Father was that if there were any other way their goal could be accomplished, that the "cup" might pass from Him, but Christ surrendered to the Father's Will. Then from the cross, for the first time in all eternity, He was separated from the Father because He had become "Sin" for all humanity and God cannot look on sin. Christ felt the pain of our sin and His separation from God and cried "Father, Father, why have you forsaken me?" He endured the ordeal because of His, and His Father's love for humanity.
