Pastor Tim Goad brings us to this part od John's gospel where we see JESUS's arrest and mock trial before the Jews, specifically that of the high priests Annas and Caiaphas, who were two of the most notoriously cruel to ever have this position, Annas having been deposed for sentencing people to death, which was solely the role of the Roman leadership. More importantly, and poignantly, we see Peter deny CHRIST here, and how he is that great example of all Christians who, still trapped in this body of death, are prone to wander and deny CHRIST either in our seeking to elude persecution, or worse, become those who seek to blend in and want the approval of men rather than be obedient to HIS will and word. We have been called to pick up our "cross", follow CHRIST unto Calvary, all the while, testifying of HIS grace towards us in salvation along the way. |
