Great Sermon! Thank you for your teaching and I wish that I could speak to you about your teaching on Arminian theology. I grew up in this teaching and always wondered about things and now I know that it was God opening my eyes to glorious truth of God sovereign grace and at the time I never knew.Keep proclaiming this Gospel truth of Calvinism it is all of God.
Critical Spirit? Claudia from NC, we are talking about the very gospel of Jesus Christ itself and a direct denial of it coming from John Piper, and then attempts by his supporters to enlist Reformers and Reformed theologians on his side of this controversy. Pathos has to accompany such a thing because the eternal destinies of people's souls are at stake. The one true gospel is at stake. Would you say Paul had a "critical spirit" when he wrote this: Galatians 5:12 "I wish that those who are troubling you would even mutilate themselves."
Sermon with a Critical spirit Hi there! I just listened to Pastor Hines’s sermon on his opinion on John Piper’s message. Regardless of whether he agrees or not, I don’t think his critical and harsh spirit helps or honors God when it comes to handling the truth of God. We’re talking about a believer here for whom Christ died. I think Pastor Hines would be more effective if there was more humility in his speech. Thank you.
Controversy JosephG asks a relevant question. Sola fide means just that. It's an assumption to say that "all saving graces" will accompany saving faith. Better to say that believers should naturally progress in sanctification, but we cannot declare a person's justification void simply because we don't believe they have been sanctified enough.
Thanks for your faithfulness. I greatly appreciate your faithfulness to the word of God and your courage to proclaim it so forthrightly. Most so-called Christians hide in the tall grass when this topic arises. We need tea of thousands more pastors with keen intellects and steel spines, who will boldly proclaim God's word. Thank you for being such a pastors.
Excellent and much needed! John Piper = FV “This double justification doctrine (initial justification by faith alone, followed by a second justification according to works in the eschatological judgment) is re-emerging as a “consensus position” among today’s leading evangelical and Reformed biblical theologians. -RICH LUSK, “The Reformed Doctrine of Justification by Works: Historical Survey and Emerging Consensus” in P. Andrew Sandlin and John Barach, eds.
All staunch supporters of the Federal Vision false gospel which is no gospel at all.
Ecumenical dialogue I want to affirm your belief that continuing ecumenical dialogue with Roman Catholicism is pointless. I attended a RC seminary in the late 1960's. A priest who was lecturing on the 2nd Vatican Council stated that the only objective of ecumenical dialogue with Protestants was to bring them back into the "true" church, Rome would never change any of its dogmas to accommodate Protestants. As far as Rome is concerned ecumenism is a tool to undo the Reformation.
reply to JosephG JosephG, please listen to the sermon again. Justification is by faith alone. But saving faith in Christ is always accompanied by all other saving graces. Thanks, Rev. Hines
